Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Sumter Police Department to fairly and impartially enforce the laws of the City of Sumter and State of South Carolina in order to protect life and property and to preserve peace and order for the citizens and visitors of the City of Sumter.

We believe that strong relationships between law enforcement and citizens are the foundation to creating safe, healthy communities. The Sumter Police Department is committed to community oriented policing strategies, building trust, communication and cooperation between officers and the community.

We believe that a law enforcement agency is only as strong as its employees. We are committed to providing our officers with the resources, training and support they need to efficiently, effectively and safely execute their duties as law enforcement officers. It is the diversity of our workforce that provides the foundation for building strong relationships throughout our community.

Public Trust

We believe that a law enforcement agency is charged with upholding a city's most valuable attribute, the public trust. We are committed to maintaining the public trust by conducting ourselves professionally at all times, by treating all persons fairly and with respect.
